Talk of the town : Suspension of waste charging in HK
【明報專訊】The government reported on the results of the demonstration scheme for MSW Charging. The report stated that the overall observations revealed that many residents found the policy disruptive, while businesses claimed it was burdensome and called for a delay or cancellation of the scheme.
The report recommended a temporary suspension of the implementation of waste charging, leading to the government's decision to postpone the scheduled implementation of waste charging on August 1st 2024.
Distributing the designated bags
Since June 1st 2024, the government has been distributing 20 designated bags per month to all public housing residents for a period of six months, aiming to help them get used to waste reduction at the source. Private housings that have signed the "Waste Reduction and Recycling Charter" will also be eligible for free designated bags. Simultaneously, the government will explore ways to improve waste charging measures. This includes reducing burdens on certain sectors and assessing the feasibility of implementing the scheme gradually.
