【明報專訊】Co-written by Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes, Writing's on the Wall is the theme song of Spectre (《007:鬼影帝國》), a James Bond movie. Sam Smith, a 23-year-old British singer-songwriter, has gained fame in a very short time. In 2015, he won four Grammy Awards with his debut album. He is known for his ability to sing high notes effortlessly.
Many James Bond theme songs are quite masculine. Writing's on the Wall has a different style, and Smith performs it emotionally and vulnerably. "I wanted a touch of vulnerability from Bond, where you see into his heart a little bit," said Smith.
◆ Lyrics (excerpt):
A million shards of glass
That haunt me from my past
As the stars begin to gather
And the light begins to fade
When all hope begins to shatter
Know that I won't be afraid
