放眼世界: Hong Kong, A different world
【明報專訊】People in Hong Kong are way busier than most of the people I know in my home country. Here, I have a lot of things to do and time seems to go by faster.
Besides going to a local school, I try to do volunteer work. I am now helping out in a primary school. I have, together with AFS, participated in a lot of activities. I travelled to Beijing last November. It was stunning that we stood in front of the Great Wall! It was an awesome trip and I was so thankful that I had the chance to visit another destination. AFS has held an Intercultural Fair, at which every exchange student "presented" his or her home country.
I've tried to adapt myself to cultural differences, and I've developed skills to eat properly with chopsticks and got used to going to school in uniform. Culture in Hong Kong is obviously different from that in Switzerland. Now more observation is needed to discover what lies behind Hong Kong culture.
The reason why I've come to Hong Kong is that I want to understand and experience a culture that's way different from what I know. Hong Kong and Switzerland differ in food, schooling, lifestyle —— almost everything. Hong Kong is a different world to me, and I am very happy to be an exchange student here!
