"Like" and "unlike"
As a preposition, "like" means "similar to", "in the same way as", or "typical to". "Unlike" is its opposite, meaning "different from", "in contrast to", or "atypical of". Look at the following examples.
He looks like his brother.
She is unlike any other girl.
Like my mother, I love cooking.
Unlike my father, I don't smoke.
It is so like her to give up easily.
It is unlike him to be on time.
