■Rising above injury

Having won her second world cup title in Barcelona recently, Vivian Kong Man Wai (江旻憓), a Hong Kong born fencer (劍擊手), ranks second in the Senior �[p�me (重劍) category among Individual Women fencers worldwide. Like many athletes, Vivian has been beset by injuries in her career and had surgery in her cruciate ligament (十字韌帶) in her left knee. However, Vivian rose above the difficulties and has performed extraordinarily in a series of international competitions, and is now aiming at a medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

After her surgery, Vivian recovered and participated in the 2018 Asian Games. She was selected to be a flag bearer for the Hong Kong team.

Vivian is a left-hander. Her coach suggested that this was an advantage among common right-handed fencers and thus spent a lot of effort in improving her techniques. She tries to stay healthy after her surgery. Going vegan is one of the ways. (photo.3-4)
