Ernest Hemingway (1899 - 1961) was an American writer who wrote both short stories and novels. He wrote about what he knew and felt. Many of his works reflected his own character and life. His sentences were short and clear. His writing style has inspired many writers.
When he was a student, he did very well in English. At high school, he wrote for his school newspaper. After graduation, he worked as a reporter and it helped polish up his writing skills. During wartime, He volunteered to help on battlefields. Later, he started writing about what he had seen. When he ran out of money, he worked for a newspaper. He arranged his time so that he could continue to write his stories.
His novel called The Old Man and the Sea is considered his most famous work. In 1954, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
