Every day, households, businesses and factories produce a significant amount of solid waste and sewage. Hong Kong faces a waste management challenge due to its dense population and limited land availability. Relying solely on landfills is no longer sustainable.
Officially opened in 2016, Hong Kong's pioneering large-scale waste-to-energy (WtE) solution facility, T¡PPARK, processes over 2.7 million tonnes of sewage sludge daily. Additionally, I¡PPARK1, scheduled for commissioning in 2025, will handle 3000 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily, generating 480 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually - enough to power 100,000 households. Together, these facilities pave the way for a sustainable future where waste becomes a valuable resource.
