【明報專訊】Apart from well-known traditional sports such as basketball, football and badminton, newly emerged sports are a good choice for spending time with your friends and family.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department has introduced a Pilot Scheme on Subvention for New Sports. A new funding scheme was launched to promote and support the development of new sports in Hong Kong. Lai, the founder of China Hong Kong Newly Emerged Sports Association, said that about 30 per cent of projects are being subsidized.
As stated in Policy Address 2022, the government is committed to promoting the sports development in Hong Kong with three policy objectives, namely to promote sports in the community, support elite sports and promote Hong Kong as a centre for major international sports events. It is also hoped that sports can develope as an industry and create enormous value for Hong Kong's economy.
■What is M?lkky?
M?lkky is a Finnish throwing game that requires twelve wooden pins marked from 1 to 12. In the competition, the players play in turn and try to knock down numbered pins by throwing a bigger throwing pin, called M?lkky, from the launching zone.
Knocking over one pin scores the number of points that is marked on the respective pin; knocking over two or more pins scores the number of points that were knocked over. For example, when a player knocked over three pins, three points will be given. A player that exceeds the score of 50 will drop back to 25. A player that misses all the target pins three times in a row is eliminated. The first player to reach exactly 50 points wins the game.
