Comic:Tai Kwun
【明報專訊】Dr Panda has an idea for this weekend. Let's find out what he suggests out of the blue.
“ Dr Panda: I want to visit the prison this weekend! ”
“ MoMo: Why? ”
“ Pat: What do you mean? Was Eason put behind bars? ”
“ MoMo: Did he break the law? ”
“ Dr Panda: I'm talking about Tai Kwun (大館). It's a place comprised of a former police station and a prison. ”
“ Eason: I don't like this place! Help me! ”
“ Dr Panda: You should not be here, naughty boy! ”
■English highway﹕out of the blue
Idiom ''out of the blue'' means ''unexpectedly''.
e.g. After several years, she called me out of the blue.
Completely out of the blue, the man attacked the pedestrians with a knife.
■Know more
Tai Kwun refers to the former Central Police Station and the name has been used since the 1880s. It is a revitalisation project of the Central Police Station compound (中區警署建築群), which is a group of buildings built between 1840s and 1920s.
After ten years of revitalisation, it was reopened to the public in 2018. It is interesting to see the late-Victorian style red-brick buildings and Greek-revival style structures being surrounded by skyscrapers (imaged). Visitors should be careful because everything there is a part of Hong Kong's history.
■Glossary
