【明報專訊】Today is a sunny day. Pat is walking along the street alone.

“ Pat: Why are there so many people? Is that a popular store? ”

“ Pat: I'm starving! Let me jump the queue. Ha! Ha! ”

“ Dr Panda: Hey! No matter how hungry you are, you shouldn't jump the queue.”

“ MoMo: Come on! We've prepared some street snacks for you. ”

“ Eason: This is for you. ”

“ Pat: What? ”

■English highway﹕No matter

''No matter'' is used to emphasise that something is true in all situations. It is usually followed by a WH-question word.

e.g. No matter who you are, you should respect others.

No matter what, I will do my best.

■Know more

Hong Kong is a paradise for food lovers. There is a lot of street food. Do you love our local snacks? Here are some must-eats:

◆Stinky tofu

It is made of fermented tofu so it might give off a stinky smell. Since it might smell unpleasant, not everyone enjoys it. Still, it has a lot of fans.

◆Egg tarts

They are tarts filled with egg custard. The crusts can be made with cookie dough or pastry.

◆Pineapple buns

The crusty top looks similar to the skin of pineapples. It is a soft and sweet bun with a cold pat of butter inside.

◆Fish balls

They are bouncy in texture. They are usually boiled in a spicy curry sauce.

■Glossary

jump the queue (idiom) 插隊

ferment (v) 發酵

unpleasant (adj) 使人不愉快的

crust (n) 餅皮
