Eleven-month old Agop is suffering from malnutrition (營養不良) and respiratory distress. Malnutrition severely hinders the development of infants and toddlers.

Many South Sudanese civilians have fled (逃離) the country since the civil war broke out in 2013. Food insecurity has caused people to leave their homeland.
South Sudanese have to rely on people living in other countries for food. The women carry boxes of nutritious food supplied by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP, 世界糧食計劃署).
The United Nations has declared famine in Unity State, South Sudan, saying it is "getting steadily worse".
Locals unload boxes of supplements (補充品) from a helicopter before a humanitarian food distribution by the WFP takes place.
The United Nations has sent aircraft to affected areas to deliver nutritious food sacks.

【明報專訊】A civil war that has gone on for years, an economic slump and droughts (旱災) are very far to us, who live in Hong Kong. However, people in South Sudan (南蘇丹) are suffering because those problems are real to them and have caused a widespread famine (饑荒) that affects over 100,000 people in the developing African country.
