【明報專訊】World Cancer Day is held on 4 February each year. It rallies the international community to raise people's awareness of cancer and the ways to prevent, detect or treat it. On 8 October 2020, the Hong Kong Cancer Registry released an annual overview of cancer statistics for 2018. Take a look at the infographic illustrations of some important facts related to cancers!
■ What is the most common type of
cancer diagnosed in Hong Kong?
Colorectum cancer(大腸癌) for males. The median age is 68.
Breast cancer(乳腺癌) for females. The median age is 57.
It is important to note that the number of new breast cancer cases marked a surge of 5.6% in 2018 and a rise of 77% over ten years.

However, for both males and females, lung cancer is the major cause of cancer death.
■ What is the number of new cancer cases diagnosed in Hong Kong?
(34,028 new cancer cases in 2018)
The number jumped by about 3.3% in a year.
92 males and 97 females, aged 0-19, were diagnosed with cancer.
◆Dreadful statistics!
According to the report, a person's risk of developing cancer is age-dependent, about 1 in 4 men and 1 in 5 women will develop cancer before the age of 75. Although age is a factor constituting the development of cancer, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is of the essence of getting rid of diseases as well!
