News feed:Fresh heart, fresh start
【明報專訊】A medical team at the Queen Mary Hospital (瑪麗醫院) succeeded in performing a heart transplant with the help of a new piece of tech called the Organ Care System (OCS). US-made, the OCS keeps a heart, even a ''not up to standard'' one from an older donor, beating with blood up to ten hours. It does so by freezing the organ and keeping it at a temperature similar to the human body's. The team estimated that with the help of the OCS, there could be three to four more heart transplants yearly in the city.
Pseudohistory
SOME students at a local primary school were fed with pseudohistory (偽歷史) in an online video class, a very common medium of instruction these days. Their General Studies (常識科) teacher lectured that the Opium War (鴉片戰爭), commonly known as Britain's invasion of China due to their disagreement over opium trade, was in fact launched by the British to destroy opium. The Education Bureau said that it would follow up the matter stringently if professional misconduct is found.
Students' safeguards
THERE are around 57,800 final year students from 121 high schools and vocational schools in Wuhan. They were back to school early this month. One school put transparent boards around pupils' desks to shield them from droplets, which might still pose a risk when students talk or eat. Is this practice enough to safeguard students' health? Should Hong Kong learn from it? (photo.3)
