【明報專訊】Volleyball was at first called "mintonette". During a demonstration of the game in 1896 by William G Morgan, an instructor at YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) who invented the game, Dr Alfred T Halstead, a professor, suggested that "volley ball" would be a better name of the game because it primarily involved volleying a ball back and forth. In 1952 the name was officially changed to one word — "volleyball".
