Grammar:Home
【明報專訊】Bill suddenly turns around when Smarties are on their way to airport. What is happening?
Pat: Wait, Bill! We are running late! Where are you headed?
Bill: (1) I am heading home! I just realised I didn't have my passport with me! (2) I must have left it at home!
MoMo: Calm down, Bill. Have you checked your luggage? Perhaps you just forgot where you put it.
Bill: I didn't, but I am quite sure it is not with me. (3) I brought it home last night to make some copies but I forgot to retrieve it from the photocopier!
Dr Panda: Don't worry, Bill, that was your old passport. See? I've got yours here - I collected all your passports a week ago, didn't I?
Bill: Oh yes! Dr Panda, you're the saviour of the day! ◆
We are familiar with the word ''home'' which means the place we live in. ''Home'' can also be used as an adverb, meaning ''in the direction of home''. When it is used as an adverb, no preposition is needed before it.
e.g. When you catch a flu you should stay home and rest.
Are you going home? It is late now, let me walk you home.
I met Dr Panda on my way home.
