Culture:Chips? Crisps?
【明報專訊】The Smarties are ordering food at a fast food restaurant in the United Kingdom. There a worker gives MoMo the wrong food. Does he really work there?
「 MoMo: I'm in two minds. Should I have fish and chips or pie and mash? 」
「 MoMo: Could I have fish and chips and pie and mash please? 」
「 MoMo: Sorry, I have ordered chips, not crisps. 」
「 Pat: How can that chap have got it wrong? 」
「 Dr Panda: You are not a local. Eason, it's you again! 」
■ Culture tips
Did French fries originate in France? Some say fries originated in Belgium (比利時), where villagers often ate fried fish and fried potatoes in winter. American soldiers discovered the dish in Belgium during World War I. They called the food French fries because French is the dominant language in southern Belgium.
