【明報專訊】Apple enters the smartwatch market by unveiling the new Apple Watch.
A watch tells the time. A smartwatch(智能手表) goes far beyond that. Apple has just unveiled the Apple Watch, which will be released in early 2015. It is the first wearable device Apple has made.
A smartwatch can be used not only to tell the time but also to make calls, take videos and display messages. It runs mobile apps, acts as a health and fitness tracker and communicates with specified smartphones. For example, the Apple Watch works only with iPhones.
Apple is not the first company to launch a smartwatch. Samsung released the Galaxy Gear in 2013, and followed it up in 2014 with Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.
Some suspect smartwatches may not appeal to the younger generation, as many youngsters have given up wearing a timepiece altogether.
