【明報專訊】Easter is a Christian festival celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Bible says Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday and came back to life three days afterwards. Easter eggs and Easter bunnies are commonly depicted in this festival. It is believed that rabbits usually give birth to big litters of babies, which become a symbol of new life. Ages ago, the church forbade eating eggs during Holy Week (the week leading up to Easter). The eggs laid that week were saved and decorated to make them "Holy Week eggs". They were then given to children as gifts. Eating chocolate Easter eggs remains popular nowadays. ■Vocab Cards Collect them all! basket (n) 籃子 dye (v) 染 miraculous (adj) 神奇的 pattern (n) 花樣 ■Glossary resurrection (n) 復活 cross (n) 十字架 depict (v) 描繪 litter (n) 一窩
