【明報專訊】Eason has got a new car and he wants to show it off.

Eason: ”I've got a new EV! Isn't it trendy? ”

MO MO: ”Wow, what's so special? ”

Eason: ”This is the latest technology. I'm so trendy. ”

Bill: ”No, EVs were first made in the 1830s but weren't very common. They made a comeback in the 1990s. ”

Dr Panda: ”Bill is right, but modern EVs are significantly improved. So, Eason is partly correct too. ”

Electric vehicles (EVs) are an increasingly attractive and sustainable choice for environmentally conscious drivers. They operate on electricity, drawing power from rechargeable batteries that require regular charging.

There are two types of electric vehicles. Pure electric vehicles run solely on electric power, emitting zero greenhouse gases, making them an eco-friendly choice. Hybrid electric vehicles combine an electric motor with an internal combustion engine, having fewer emissions than conventional cars. In short, they are more environmentally friendly than gasoline-powered cars.

To combat global warming and reduce their carbon footprint, more individuals are putting a curb on gasoline consumption by switching to electric vehicles. Governmental support, including tax incentives, plays a vital role in encouraging this transition.

■English highway﹕To put a curb on something

''To put a curb on something'' is a phrase which means to place a limit or restriction on a particular activity or behaviour in order to control or reduce it.

E.g. I decided to put a curb on excessive spending by tracking my expenses.
