Talk of the town¡GWorld-class stadium
¡i©ú³ø±M°T¡jKai Tak Sports Park, envisioned as ''a sports park for the people of Hong Kong'', is set to open in March next year. This state-of-the-art park covers approximately 28 hectares and boasts several world-class sports facilities, including stages and seating designed to be flexible to meet the requirements of various international competitions and sporting events.
Additionally, half of the park is designed as open space to cater to the needs of the people of Hong Kong, equipped with courts for ball games, a cycling track, a jogging trail, a children's playground, and a lawn for recreation.
Making Hong Kong a centre for major international events
The main arena of the sport park can accommodate around 50,000 spectators, making it an important infrastructure in developing Hong Kong's event economy.
By hosting mega-events such as concerts and international sports events, the park can stimulate local consumption and attract more tourists to visit Hong Kong.
According to the latest government announcements, the renowned British rock band, Coldplay, is scheduled to host a concert in April next year at Kai Tak Sports Park. Furthermore, the stadiums in the park will be utilized for world-class sports competitions, such as the Hong Kong Sevens 2025 in March. As one of the host cities of the National Games in 2025, Kai Tak Sports Park will play a significant role in providing a platform for all athletes.
However, a major concern for the public is how to efficiently evacuate a venue that can accommodate 50,000 spectators. The nearest MTR station, Sung Wong Toi Station, may not be able to handle all spectators within a short period. The government is exploring alternatives such as non-franchised buses and ferries.
