Although flowers look small and simple, they are actually more complex than they seem to be. There are different parts that make up a flower and each part performs a specific function. The main parts of most flowers are as follows:
Stamens (雄 蕊) : They are the male parts which produce pollen (花粉). Pollen is a powdery substance which is carried to other plants by insects so that the other plants can make new seeds.
Pistils (雌蕊) :They are the female parts which are located at the centre of a flower. The tip of a pistil collects pollen and begins the process of reproduction.
Petals (花瓣) :They are bright, colourful parts of a flower. They can attract insects so that pollens can be transferred to other plants.
Calyx (花萼) : The calyx is at the base of a flower. It is made up of sepals (萼片) which look like small leaves. It protects the flower bud when it is developing into a flower.
