【明報專訊】Leicester City (李斯特城) have won its first ever English Premier League title this season, following a brilliant performance from its striker and winger Jamie Vardy (占美華迪), whom the Football Writers' Association (英格蘭足球記者協會) has named the 2015/16 Footballer of the Year (英格蘭足球先生).
Vardy is twenty-nine years old. Born and raised in Sheffield, England, Vardy was rejected by the local football club Sheffield Wednesday (錫周三) for being too short when he was sixteen. The following year he started playing for Stocksbridge Park Steels (史托斯橋鋼鐵) for a salary of £30 (around HK$340) a week and working as a technician in a factory in his hometown.
Vardy joined Leicester City in 2012. He continued to play in his energetic style. In November 2015 he became the first player to have scored in eleven consecutive Premier League matches!
