Residents of the village are worried that the incorporation plan will harm their right to build ''small houses'' (¤B«Î) in the area. One villager criticises the plan, saying it will mean the ''destruction'' of the village.

Lau Wong-fat, who represents the villagers, argues that the British colonial government promised them that their place wouldn't be made country park land. He says the government's incorporation plan constitutes a breach of faith as well as an infringement of Article 44 of the Basic Law, which is aimed at protecting the interests of NT indigenous inhabitants (·s¬É­ì©~¥Á).

The government

Secretary for the Environment Wong Kam-sing (Àô¹Ò§½ªø¶ÀÀA¬P) says the majority of Hong Kong people support the incorporation plan. He says the government respect villagers' land entitlements (¤g¦aÅv¯q), which he says the plan will not affect.

Environmental groups

A coalition of environmental groups, made up of WWF Hong Kong, Friends of the Earth, Green Sense etc, has issued a joint statement expressing support for the plan. It says the veto of the proposals will set a bad precedent, leaving HK country park enclaves at the mercy of reckless ''development''.
