¡½Know more
Biodiversity is the variety and variability of life on Earth, including different life forms such as animals, plants, fungi, bacteria and tiny creatures called microorganisms.
Biodiversity is crucial because any change in one species affects other species. For example, trees provide homes and food for animals. Some of them, in turn, catch insects that damage plants. If these animals go extinct, more insects may be left to damage plants. Then, there may be fewer plants to filter air and absorb rainwater for flood prevention. Conserving biodiversity ensures that all living things can coexist harmoniously.
Biodiversity is also essential to our survival. Humans depend on various plants and animals for food. They work together in ecosystems to provide us with fruits, vegetables and animal products.
