◆How many establishments are there in the cosmetics and toiletries manufacturing sector?

80. This manufacturing industry in Hong Kong is small as most people focus on trading rather than manufacturing. Most manufacturers focus on the production of mid-priced toiletries and perfumes.

As of 2019, there were only 560 people working in this field.
◆Where are the products exported?
. 65.1% of the cosmetic and toiletries products are exported to Mainland China
. 19.9% to Macao
. 4.9% to Japan
◆As of January to September 2020, among the $25,808 million of exports, only $277 million are domestic exports. Most of them are re-exports.

◆How do cosmetics and skincare brands promote themselves?
Most brands have begun to promote their products through social media like Instagram and YouTube. Some of them invited internet celebrities or key opinion leaders to review their products for marketing purposes.
◆Are cosmetic products only for women?
Whitening and anti-ageing products are popular among Asian female consumers, but various international brands have tailored their skincare products to the male market. The society is getting rid of the gender stereotype that skincare and cosmetics products are specifically designed for women.
