It refers to the far-reaching(有影響力的) power.
e.g. The burglar was finally punished by the long arm of justice.
◆Twist someone's arm
Force someone to do something.
e.g. I have to twist Bill's arm to get him out of bed.
◆Arm's length
It refers to the distance intentionally kept from someone or something.
e.g. That man stayed an arm's length away from anybody due to his fear of coronavirus.
