Napoleon Bonaparte (拿破崙, 1769-1821) was the first emperor of France and one of the world's greatest military leaders. In 1804, he crowned himself emperor. He successfully expanded his empire and conquered most of Europe in a series of wars called the Napoleonic Wars.
He introduced a set of laws called the Napoleonic Code. It allowed freedom of religion but did not grant privileges based on birth. It encouraged science and arts as well as promoted education and economy. Napoleon was defeated at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and was exiled.
