■Know more
James David Vance is the current 40-year-old Vice President of the United States. In January 2025, he was sworn in alongside President Donald Trump.
Raised in the Rust Belt (鐵鏽帶), a region once thriving with manufacturing but later experiencing economic struggles, Vance's childhood was marked by poverty and his mother's struggles with drug addiction. After military service, he graduated from university and then earned a law degree from the renowned Yale Law School.
Before politics, Vance gained fame in 2016 with his bestselling memoir (回憶錄), Hillbilly Elegy (絕望者之歌), a vivid personal account of his upbringing and the socioeconomic challenges of the working class.
Without prior government experience, Vance became a senator (參議員) in 2023. His conservative views align closely with Trump's, particularly on issues like trade, diplomacy, and immigration. Vance's journey from a challenging childhood to the vice presidency shows his toughness and determination.
