■Know more

Water is a unique liquid with special properties which make it different from other liquids. It is colourless, tasteless and odourless, although the ocean may appear blue or green due to things like plants or minerals in it.

Water can be found in three different forms: solid (固體), liquid (液體), and gas (氣體). At 0℃, water freezes and becomes ice. As it warms up, it turns back into liquid. If heated to 100℃, water turns into water vapour by evaporation. When it cools, water vapour becomes water again by condensation (凝結).

Water also takes on different shapes. When it is solid, it has a specific shape. However, in its liquid and gaseous states, its shape depends on the shape of the container.

Water has many other properties, including its ability to dissolve other substances like sugar and salt. Besides, cooling effect through evaporation is possible. This is why sweating can help cool us down and maintain our body temperature.
