Horizon﹕SUMMER treats
【明報專訊】Ice cream and cold drinks are something that we cannot miss in summer. People around the world have their favourite treats to survive the summer heat. Yummy!
Mexico - Frozen chocolate banana
It's easy to feel the passion of the Mexican people. The country's beloved summer treat is easily made in three steps - freezing a banana, dipping it into molten chocolate, and sprinkling coconut (right) or crushed nuts (left) before the chocolate turns hard.
Turkey - Dondurma
Having the dondurma is fun - the hawker will probably try to pass you the Turkish ice-cream and teasingly take it back. This is possible because of the dondurma's sticky texture and non-melting characteristic. A thickening agent called salep, made from orchid roots, is added to give dondurma its fun to play with texture so that you don't have to hurry to finish it.
Vietnam - Sinh To Bo
Vietnamese people are a big fan of fruits and condensed milk. Sinh To Bo, a smoothie made with smashed avocado and condensed milk, is the national go-to drink for soothing their throats in the summer heat.
