Around the world﹕When nights are bright as days
【明報專訊】St Petersburg is Russia's second-largest city. It is an important Russian port on the Baltic Sea. The Smarties have gone there to participate in the White Nights Festival.
“ Eason: Wake up, Smarties! It's already 6pm! ”
“ MoMo: Oh my god, we have to hurry to the show! ”
“ Pat: Has the show started yet? ”
“ Dr Panda: ”What are you talking about? It's six in the morning now. ”
“ Pat: We've been tricked! No wonder I still feel sleepy... ”
“ MoMo: We can't distinguish the day from the night in this city. ”
■Culture tips
White Nights Festival
Due to the latitude, St Petersburg does not get dark even during the night from early June to late July. People celebrate this remarkable phenomenon called the "White Nights". The highlight of the festival is the Scarlet Sails celebration. You can enjoy extraordinary fireworks, a concert and a water show during which an incredibly illuminated boat with red sails will pass through.
