August Pullman is a ten-year old boy who lives with his parents and sister in New York. He was born with a facial deformity (Áy³¡·îÅÜ) and looks very different from other kids. He has been home-schooled by his mother but his parents decide to enroll him in a mainstream private school. Starting 5th grade at the school, he wants to make friends with his classmates. However, nobody wants to sit next to August because of his facial abnormality. He also notices other kids looking at him and talking about him behind him.
Wonder tells the story of August's first year at school and how other kids treat him. R. J. Palacio, author of the book, explained that the idea came to her after seeing a girl with facial deformities on the street one day.
The film based on the novel, starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson as the parents of August, will be released on November 17, 2017 in the US.
