■English highway﹕Effect (noun)

Meaning: the result of a particular influence.

E.g. Eating too much candy can have a negative effect on your teeth.

Effective (adjective)

Meaning: successful or achieving the results that you want.

E.g. Yoga is a very effective sport for combating stress.

Cost-effective (adjective)

Meaning: if an activity is cost-effective, it is good value for the amount of money paid.

E.g. It wouldn't be cost-effective to buy an expensive new phone when all you want to do is store your photos.

Affect (verb)

Meaning: to have an influence on someone or something, or to cause a change in someone or something.

E.g. Does a divorce affect a child's behaviour?

Affection (noun)

Meaning: a feeling of liking for a person or place.

E.g. He remembered the teachers at his primary school with great affection.
