【明報專訊】Pat and Bill have decided to relax after a long day.

“ Pat: Let's watch some cartoons! ”

“ Bill: Sure! I want some popcorn! ”

“ Bill: Why is there no sound? ”

“ Pat: Dr. Panda! Could you please help fix the speaker? ”

“ Dr Panda: Ha! It's a silent film produced in the 1920s. ”

“ Pat: What? ”

“ Dr Panda: Yes, the first-ever animation with sound was made in 1928. Walt Disney even lent his own voice to Mickey Mouse! ”

◆Know more

Walter Elias Disney (1901 - 1966), better known as Walt Disney, was an American entrepreneur, animator and producer. He is best known for Disney animations and Disneyland. His company created the first animation with sound and countless world-famous characters such as Mickey Mouse and the Disney Princesses.

He had a gift for drawing. After working at an art studio and learning about animation, he started his own company to create short cartoons. The business did not make enough money to stay afloat, so he had to close it down.

However, nothing could stop him from pursuing his dream. With the help of his family, he opened a new company. A lot of animations have been released since then and most of them were box-office hits. In 1955, Walt Disney opened the first Disneyland.

Although Walt Disney passed away in 1966, his films and theme parks are still loved by us. He inspired us not to give up easily.
