Before gaining fame, Chloe and Halle Bailey had been posting music covers on YouTube. Beyoncé discovered them and they earned the opportunity to perform with Beyoncé in 2018. In the same year, they received two Grammy nominations. Despite not winning, they won public attention. They have signed with Beyoncé's record label Parkwood Entertainment.

◆The new mermaid controversies
Halle was cast as the protagonist of The Little Mermaid. However, this casting arrangement sparked controversies over whether the new cast should look like Disney's original version of Ariel, who was drawn as white. Some people commented that the new Disney film should follow the original arrangement of The Little Mermaid. In response to the negative comments online, Halle said, “I don't pay attention to the negativity.”
