【明報專訊】The airport has been one of the busiest airports in the world since its establishment. Yet, in light of the pandemic situation, the airport only handled 8.3 million passengers in the first half of the year, indicating a 78.1% drop compared to the same figure last year.
◆When was the airport opened?
It was opened in 1998 .
◆How long are the runways?
Both two runways are 3800 metres in length, which are over 31 times the length of a soccer field(120 metres).
The third runway is under construction!
→ estimated construction cost : HK$141.5 billion
◆How busy was it?
In 2019, the airport handled about 71.5 million passengers and 4.8 million tonnes of cargo and accommodated 419,730 air traffic movements(飛機起降量)!
◆How many destinations?
Around 120 airlines handled over 1100 passenger and cargo flights every day, connecting to around 220 destinations worldwide!
