One of the skills to learn in the subject of Liberal studies is to propose viable solutions to social problems. Whether in examinations or an Independent Enquiry Study (IES), students are required to make suggestions concerning social problems from multiple angles.

Many Hong Kong people are depressed. Propose ways to alleviate the problem and explain how they will work.

A study conducted by the Mental Health Association of Hong Kong has found that the depression index in the city has reached a new high, rising from 4.69 points in 2012 to 5.52 points in 2018. The younger the age group, the higher the index. The problem is the gravest for respondents in the 18-24 age group.
Sun Yu Kit, a lecturer at CityU SCOPE who is responsible for the study, says that the problem of depression is worsening in Hong Kong, with 64% of people saying they will not seek professional help and 47.9% not knowing how to seek help. He describes the situation as worthy of concern.
