Talk of the town:The relocation of Hong Kong Science Museum
【明報專訊】In the 2023 Policy Address, the government proposed the establishment of a specialised museum to celebrate national development and achievements. The government aims for the museum to be located in the city centre, providing convenience for both residents and tourists. The need for a larger site that can encompass different contents and effectively present the nation's development and achievements was also emphasised.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has earlier submitted a proposal to the Legislative Council, recommending the transformation of the Hong Kong Science Museum in Tsim Sha Tsui East into this specialised museum. The report also mentioned the conversion of the existing Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence in Shau Kei Wan into the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence. The new museum will focus on the history of the War of Resistance against Japan and cultivate a stronger sense of national esteem and patriotism. While, the proposed plan is regarded as preliminary and the authorities will continue to consult the Legislative Council and various stakeholders for the overall planning of the museums.
