■Know more
A season is one of the four periods of the year. There are different seasons mainly because the Earth is tilted when it revolves around the sun. For half of the year, the Earth is tilted such that the North Pole is pointed towards the Sun. For the other half of the year, the South Pole is pointed towards the Sun. Obviously, this affects the way sunlight falls on each of the two hemispheres and, by extension, makes the temperature higher or lower.
Each of the season has its own distinguishable climate conditions which affect both plants and animals. In spring, it is usually warm, foggy and humid. It is hot and rainy during summer. There might even be thunderstorms and typhoons. In autumn, the leaves of some trees turn red, orange, yellow or brown and then fall off. To prepare for winter, animals grow thicker fur and some birds migrate to warmer places.

By extension
'By extension' is used for explaining that someone or something is affected by something mentioned because they are naturally connected.
E.g. Being polite can improve our relationships with others and, by extension, make us happier and more confident.
