¡i©ú³ø±M°T¡jIt is often said that video games are only frivolous pastimes of youths loafing around. However, what has happened recently seems to be proving that esports has gone mainstream.
The Hong Kong Esports Gymnasium (»´ä¹q¤lÅé¨|À]) owned by Forger Esports (Áë¦K¹qÄv) was opened 30 December last year. It occupies 3000 squares and can house 100 people. As in NBA and FIFA, to make the games more competitive, numerous leagues have been set up for League of Legends (^¶¯Áp·ù), King of Glory (¤ýªÌºaÄ£), etc.
Also, academic programmes focusing on esports management have been launched. IT sector lawmaker Charles Mok (²ö¤D¥ú) called for an interdepartmental cooperation (¸ó³¡ªù¦X§@) to promote local development of esports and send players to join the 2022 Asian games to be held in Hangzhou (ªC¦{). All this demonstrates how people have started to recognise esports as something comparable to soccer, basketball and Olympic events.
